Monument is nestled in the foothills of the Rampart Range in El Paso County, Colorado. An integral part of the Tri-Lakes area, it stands alongside Palmer Lake and Woodmoor to form a community rich in natural beauty and history. To the west is the majestic Pike National Forest, while Colorado Springs and the U.S. Air Force Academy lies to the south. Bald Mountain, True Mountain and Spruce Mountain provide a scenic backdrop in the north, while Black Forest and expansive plains extend into the distance. Monument enjoys a unique blend of small-town charm and metropolitan convenience.
Monument’s origins trace back to its humble beginnings as a stop along the Rio Grande Railroad in 1872, attracting early settlers who marked out the town’s preliminary shape. The town adopted the name Monument, inspired by the nearby Monument Creek and the imposing Monument rock to the west.
