“Woodland Park” Whole House Remodel
The renovation of the small existing cabin resulted in a modern, efficient home with an elegant rustic style. Originally built in 1956, the cabin had a small kitchen, living room, two small bedrooms, and one bathroom.
To bring the cabin up to current energy efficiency standards, the design included updates to all of the energy and utilities, while still maximizing the limited space and incorporating modern comforts. This required installing a new electrical pole and meter from the city to provide additional power and comply with updated building codes.
New additions included a master bathroom, laundry room, and study. The entire interior was removed to expose the wall framing and roof trusses, and old wiring, plumbing, and venting were removed to accommodate the new utilities. The laundry room addition also required a new crawl space foundation and matching log siding to be installed. New roofing shingles were installed to blend with the rustic style of the cabin. The installation of a new gas fireplace with stone veneer and a rustic mantel that was salvaged from an old barn beam added to the cabin’s charm. A tankless high-efficiency water heater was also installed to conserve space.
The original wood flooring was sanded and stained, and colored tiles were added to the bathrooms and kitchen to enhance the living areas. The kitchen was enlarged, and Rustic Birch cabinets were installed. The new interior doors and trim were made out of rustic knotty pine and custom stained. A rustic barn door with custom made iron hardware was installed in the master bedroom.
