Achieving the Perfect Balance: A Stunning Example of an Elegant Rustic Bathroom Remodel

All bathroom remodels require a lot of attention to detail in order to bring about the desired style and functionality needed to bring about an enjoyable space.  There are many factors that need to be considered that go into bathroom designs that help make them a pleasant place for both getting ready for the day as well as for relaxing after a stressful long day.  

One of our favorite design-build master bathrooms was an elegant rustic style with copper tones. The former layout was rearranged to provide a larger shower, a new makeup counter, and a relaxing freestanding cast iron tub.

We enlarged and created a custom shower featuring a granite-topped bench, light beige-colored wavy textured wall tile with a beautiful accent row, and a pebble mosaic shower pan. The clear shower glass had a copper color header and door handle that matched the copper-toned bath fixtures. The new plumbing fixtures in the bathroom remodel were of an elegant copper color that blended beautifully with the granite countertops, cabinetry, tile, and faux-painted wainscoting we added. The large rustic mirrors were carefully selected to blend in with the elegant rustic style.

This elegant rustic style continued into the master bedroom with faux painted knotty alder ship lapped wainscoting added throughout. We installed plank floor tile with heated wire to provide more comfort in both spaces. A rustic knotty alder “X” style barn door was custom sized, stained, and hung with precision to separate the two spaces. This elegant bathroom remodel brought a lot of joy to the homeowners. 

Enhancing Storage and Open Space: A Master Bathroom Remodel with Custom Details

Another fun master bathroom remodel we completed consisted of a design that provided more open space and cabinetry consisting of more storage capability. The tub space was changed from a tub deck to a freestanding tub with a filler. The new tile wainscoting and a granite window sill surrounded the area nicely. 

The custom shower walls included 12” x 24” porcelain tile with a beautiful basketweave accent and metal edging. Other features with the bath remodel included a custom niche, granite top bench and pebble mosaic shower pan. The heated tile floor provided a controlled comfort that partially continued into the master closet which was also remodeled with custom shelving. 

The new spacious cabinets provided much-needed storage space while also providing a double vanity. The countertops were carefully selected and consisted of a more elegant and unique leather texture. All of the oil-rubbed bronze bath and lighting fixtures blended well with the overall color scheme. A 5-panel barn door with obscure glass and copper-toned hardware was carefully selected and installed to separate the spaces. 

The homeowner was pleased with our work and continued to request more remodeling work that consisted of new solid interior doors, French patio door, interior trim work, wrought iron stair railing, and chandeliers throughout the house. We, of course, obliged and happily completed the homeowners’ additional remodeling request. This homeowner was very pleased with the results. 

Important things to consider when planning for a bathroom remodel

Budget

The budget will often determine the amount of new remodel work that can be completed for bathrooms. It is important to realize that bathroom remodels are often more expensive per square foot than other reconditioned spaces. This is usually due to the professional designs and numerous types of trade work, tasks, and finish materials that all have to be utilized for the bathroom space. Each bathroom remodel may require a lot of demolition of existing items and relocation of utilities.

Bathroom remodels also include all of the main trade work such as plumbing, HVAC, electrical, drywall, painting, tile, glass, carpentry, and other specialty trades. Also, the higher quality finish materials such as solid surface countertops, professional grade bath and shower fixtures, quality tile, lighting, and cabinetry can all add up since they are usually selected as an upgrade from the existing materials. An experienced bathroom remodeler will be able to help homeowners with a design and budget that meets their needs.

Design

Start a list of the things that you currently do not like about your existing bathroom, such as feeling crowded, not enough storage, old and outdated finishes. Then make another list of things you would like to have, such as a freestanding tub or tub deck, tile shower or manufactured quartz, or special cabinetry for the make-up area. 

These lists will help the designer to begin creating some proposed layouts that would be most suitable for homeowners’ needs and wants. This bathroom remodel design will also provide a framework for the craftsmen to begin reviewing and providing accurate pricing for their work, as well as to provide helpful suggestions. The completed design will also help with planning and working through some potential conflicts with existing walls, or unforeseen conditions.
